Video conversion for dummies

If anyone ever asks you to convert a DVD to computer video — get Handbrake. Especially if you work with iTunes or QuickTime video, this is the easiest way to go. There are plenty of workable presets for Apple video formats.

If you absolutely require Windows Media encoded files, you can create .avi files with the H.264 encoder and run them through Windows Media Encoder after you’ve downloaded DivX 7 for Windows. XP performed well (I could view and encode), but Vista was troublesome (I couldn’t view, but I could encode?).

Or, you could install the DivX7 on your computer(s) and be done with it. Hmmm.
